How to choose in 5 questions
- Where do you sell? Within driving distance of one office: a radius fits. A few states: a per-state email. Nationwide: a nationwide feed or research tool.
- How fast do you need to know? Alerts as each 470 is filed, a daily feed, or one weekly list. Faster means more to sort; weekly means less, a few days later.
- What context do you want on each bid? The buyer’s last result in the row (bids reported, provider chosen, pre-discount cost), or a separate search of awards by provider.
- Who will use it? One owner, or a sales team that needs seats and a pipeline.
- Do you also bid internet access or WAN? Those are Category 1. Some tools cover every category; erateradar lists Category 2 network bids only.
Free first: USAC’s own tools
USAC’s page for service providers says:
“There are three ways for service providers to search and review FCC Form 470 information:”
“The E-Rate FCC Form 470 Download Tool provides a means to search and download FCC Form 470 information and RFP documents.”
“The E-Rate FCC Form 470 Tool Data Set can be used to create custom reports or to access the data and RFP documents via an Application Program Interface (API) call.”
“FCC Form 470 information can also be accessed in EPC.”
What you then do by hand: match each open 470’s buyer (its BEN) to its past Form 471 funding requests, pick the last one of the same service type, read the bid count, provider and amount, and look up the provider’s SPIN. That is the join erateradar runs for every bid on your list, every week.
Questions
What is the best E-rate Form 470 tool?
It depends on where and how you sell. For a small shop selling within driving distance that wants one weekly list with the buyer’s last result on each bid, that is what erateradar is built for. For nationwide alerts and award research by SPIN, EduTek. For a daily all-states research tool with line items, FRNHQ. For a daily email for a few states, E-rate Provider Services. To do it yourself for free, USAC’s own tools.
Is there a free Form 470 tool?
Yes. USAC’s Form 470 Download Tool and the same data through an API are free; you do the joins yourself. E-Rate Stats has a free tier for browsing Form 470s and 471s. ERateSignal lists a free tier, but it is waitlist-only for now.
Which tools show what a school chose last time?
Several, in different ways. EduTek searches every 471 award and FRN by SPIN. FRNHQ shows applicant funding history. Which paid tool costs least?
Among tools you can buy today, E-Rate Stats Pro is $39/mo, but its page describes no alerts for new 470s. EduTek Basic is $850 per year or $85/mo, billed monthly and includes 470 alerts. Prices are from each vendor’s page on the date shown in the table.
Is any of these run by USAC?
Only USAC’s own Open Data tools and EPC. The others, erateradar included, are independent companies using USAC’s public data. erateradar is not affiliated with USAC or the FCC. Its trial is 14 days with no card.
